Job summary

Texas Oncology is seeking a Patient Benefits Representative to join the Medical Oncology Department at the Balcones clinic in Austin. This full-time role focuses on educating patients about insurance coverage and benefits, assessing their financial needs, and coordinating authorizations for treatments.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum three years patient pre-services coordinator experience.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and Word/Excel.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of CPT coding and HCPCS coding application.
  • Clear verbal communication and correct terminology usage.
  • Must complete required e-learning courses within 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Before treatment, obtain insurance information and educate on coverage, benefits, co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs.
  • Assess patient ability to meet expenses and discuss payment arrangements; educate on financial assistance programs.
  • Complete reimbursement and liability forms for patient review and signature.
  • Obtain pre-authorization or referral approval codes from Clinical Reviewer prior to treatment.
  • Review patient balances and coordinate with front desk for collection of fees.
  • Verify demographics and insurance coverage at each visit per SOPs.
  • Stay updated on available financial aid and build relationships with aid providers.
  • Maintain confidentiality per HIPAA and comply with all policies.
  • Maintain manuals, logs, and forms; perform other duties as assigned.
