Job summary

Texas Oncology in Austin is seeking a Patient Benefits Representative to educate patients about insurance coverage and benefits, assess financial ability, and assist with authorization and billing steps.

Under supervision, you will maintain eligibility information, coordinate with clinical teams, and help patients navigate financial assistance programs while ensuring HIPAA compliance and accurate documentation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum three years as patient pre-services coordinator or equivalent.
• Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) required.
• Demonstrate knowledge of CPT coding and HCPCS coding application.
• Must be able to verbally communicate clearly and complete required e-learning within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Before treatment, obtain insurance coverage information and demographics; educate on coverage, benefits, co-pays, deductibles, and OOP expenses.
• Assess patient ability to meet expenses; discuss financial assistance options and complete cost estimates.
• Process reimbursement and liability forms; forward to billing.
• Obtain pre-authorization or referral codes from Clinical Reviewer prior to treatment.
• Review account balance and inform front desk of patients to meet with.
• Ensure correct co-pay entry in system for collection.
• Verify/update demographics and coverage at each visit per SOPs.
• Maintain current knowledge of financial aid; build relationships with providers and seek leads.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA laws; keep manuals/logs up to date.
