Job summary

Inova Health System is seeking a Senior Patient Access Specialist for the Float Pool to join Inova Fairfax & Fair Oaks Hospitals. This full-time role requires travel within the Central region and a flexible schedule with weekend rotation.

You will oversee patient intake, insurance coordination, and HIM-related tasks while maintaining HIPAA compliance. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and at least 2 years of patient access experience.

• Financial Counseling: conducts financial reviews and mentors staff.
• Insurance & Contract Coordination: handles complex cases and teaches peers about contracts.
• Scheduling: schedules surgeries and verifies readiness.
• HIM Coordination: liaises with HIM on merges and MRN audits.
• Utilization Review Coordination: supports escalations for medical necessity.

Inova Health is looking for a dedicated Patient Access Specialist Sr to join the Inova Fairfax & Fair Oaks Hospitals teams. This role will be full-time, Monday-Friday, morning/midday with every other weekend. Travel is required to Inova locations within the Central region: Inova Fairfax & Fair Oaks Hospitals.

Patient Access Specialist Sr Job Responsibilities:

• Patient Intake, Registration & Documentation: Audits records and documentation for accuracy, troubleshoots discrepancies, and supports escalations.
• Administrative & Technology Operations: Compiles reports, troubleshoots system issues, and supports peers.
• Case Management Tasks: Audits referrals and supports escalations.
• Financial Counseling: Conducts financial reviews and mentors staff.
• Insurance & Contract Coordination: Troubleshoots complex cases and educates peers on insurance contract nuances.
• Inquiries & Patient Concerns: Handles escalations and analyzes trends.
• Kiosk: Analyzes performance and trains staff on patient kiosks.
• Patient Communication & Advocacy: Handles sensitive concerns, audits logs, and advocates for patient needs.
• Referrals: Audits referral workflows and mentors staff.
• Scheduling: Schedules surgeries and verifies readiness.
• Transport: Solves transport issues and audits logs.
• Health Information Management (HIM) Coordination: Liaises with Health Information Management (HIM) on merges and audits medical record numbers (MRNs).
• Utilization Review Coordination: Supports escalations for medical necessity.
• Ensures compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and other applicable federal and state regulations.
• May perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education:High school or GED
• Experience: 2 years of patient access experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience: Recent experience in retail, customer service, or other service-oriented industry
• Travel: Must be willing to travel within posted location
• Schedule: Must be available to work a flexible schedule with rotating holidays and every other weekend. Schedule is published in the second week of each month (2 weeks prior at minimum).
• Other: Fast thinking and versatile. Consistent employment with the same employer is a plus.
