Job summary

SUNY Upstate Medical University in Verona seeks a Patient Access Associate to ensure smooth patient flow and accurate registration for the Verona Cancer Center's ambulatory clinic, lab, and infusion services.

You will interview patients to collect demographics and financial information, determine CMS No Surprises Act estimates, share cost estimates, and offer payment plans or financial assistance as appropriate. This role requires attention to queue monitoring and interdepartmental liaison.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree and two years of related patient financial/insurance/registration experience in a healthcare setting or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology and medical billing.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Register patients for Verona Cancer Center ambulatory, lab, and infusion services.
• Interview patients to obtain demographics and financial information.
• Determine if patient qualifies for an estimate under CMS No Surprises Act and inform patient of estimate and potential out-of-pocket balance.
• Offer payment plans or financial assistance as appropriate.
• Monitor the registration work queue and perform quality reviews and support.
• Act as a liaison between patients and internal departments.
