Optum is hiring a Patient Access Representative in Oneonta, NY to welcome patients in person or by phone and gather required demographics and insurance details for accurate hospital billing. The role involves on-site work with training and shifts spanning days and weekends.

You will verify benefits, collect co-pays, and help coordinate appointments while delivering high-quality patient experiences with professionalism and empathy.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1+ years of customer service experience.
• Ability to work onsite at 1 Associate Dr, Oneonta, NY.
• Availability to work at least 2 shifts per pay period - Monday to Friday 7 AM–7 PM and weekends 8 AM–4:30 PM.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.

Responsibilities

• Communicates directly with patients and/or families to complete the registration process by collecting demographics, health information, and verifying insurance eligibility/benefits.
• Utilizes computer systems to enter or verify patient data in real-time.
• Gathers clinical information and processes referrals, pre-certification, pre-determinations, and pre-authorizations per insurance requirements.
• Verifies insurance coverage and benefits, and creates price estimates or reverifications as needed.
• Collects patient co-pays and discusses out-of-pocket financial obligations with patients.
• Identifies outstanding balances from prior visits and attempts to collect amounts due.
• Coordinates data collection from patients and schedules appointments with provider offices prior to discharge.
• Responds to patient and caregiver inquiries in a compassionate, respectful manner.
• Generates and analyzes patient data reports and follows up on issues and inconsistencies.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of registration requirements across departments (Main Admitting, OP, ED, Maternity, Rehab).
