Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is hiring a Patient Access Representative in Oneonta, NY. The role involves greeting patients, collecting demographics and insurance information, and ensuring accurate billing data. Training is provided on-the-job for 4–6 weeks at multiple locations in the area.

Hourly pay ranges from $16.00 to $29.00, with a sign-on bonus of $2,000 for external applicants. The position requires 18+ and standard 8-hour shifts with rotating weekends.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED.
• 1+ years of customer service experience.
• Ability to work onsite at 1 Norton Ave, Oneonta, NY 13820 (Fox Hospital Oneonta) and 43 Pearl St W, Sidney, NY (A.O. Fox Hospital – Tri-Town Campus).
• Ability to work 8-hour shifts Monday – Friday – 7 AM – 5 PM with rotating weekends.
• Must be 18 years of age OR older.

Responsibilities

• Communicates directly with patients and/or families to complete the registration process by collecting demographics, health information, and verifying insurance eligibility/benefits.
• Uses computer systems to enter or verify patient data in real-time ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Gathers clinical information and processes referrals, pre-certifications, pre-determinations, and pre-authorizes according to insurance plan requirements.
• Verifies insurance coverage and creates price estimates / reverifications as needed.
• Collects patient co-pays and discusses out-of-pocket obligations with patients.
• Identifies outstanding balances and attempts to collect amounts due.
• Coordinates data with provider offices to confirm and create scheduled appointments prior to discharge.
• Responds to patient and caregiver inquiries with compassion and respect.
• Generates and analyzes patient data reports and follows up on discrepancies.
• Keeps up-to-date knowledge of registration requirements across departments.
