Job summary

Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is seeking a dedicated Patient Access Specialist to join the team. The role is full-time, Monday–Friday, 6:30am–3:00pm, supporting Fairfax Hospital and multiple departments within the Inova Center for Personalized Health.

The position requires adherence to Inova Health System’s Service Excellence standards, admitting and scheduling patients, conducting insurance verifications, and providing financial counseling.

Qualifications

• Education requirement: High School or GED.
• Experience requirement: 1 year of patient access experience.

Responsibilities

• Confirms authorizations, validates, and indexes documents.
• Prepares schedules, tracks records, and navigates multiple systems.
• Coordinates documentation and follows up on case-related tasks.
• Assesses coverage and initiates financial assistance.
• Resolves insurer and contract issues and identifies contract limitations.
• Resolves patient concerns and tracks follow-ups.
• Educates patients about kiosks and coordinates referrals.
• Schedules specialty visits and coordinates transportation.
• Coordinates HIM coordination and ROI release.

Job Description

Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is looking for a dedicated Patient Access Specialist to join the team. This position is full-time, Monday-Friday, 6:30am-3:00pm. This role will support Fairfax Hospital and multiple departments In the Inova Center for Personalized Health. As a Patient Access Specialist, you will adhere to Inova Health System's "Service Excellence" standards while admitting/scheduling patients, conducting insurance verifications and providing financial counseling.

Patient Access Specialist Job Responsibilities:

• confirms authorizations, validates, and indexes documents.
• Administrative & Technology Operations: Prepares schedules, tracks records, and navigates
• multiple systems efficiently.
• Case Management Tasks: Coordinates documentation and follows up on case-related tasks.
• Financial Counseling: Assesses coverage and initiates financial assistance.
• Insurance & Contract Coordination: Applies payer-specific rules, resolves issues, and identifies
• contract limitations.
• Inquiries & Patient Concerns: Resolves moderate concerns and tracks follow-ups with patients.
• Kiosk: Educates patients and reports usage trends on kiosks.
• Patient Communication & Advocacy: Coordinates with departments, tailors messaging, and
• Referrals: Validates insurance and tracks referral status.
• Scheduling: Schedules specialty visits and coordinates preparation.
• Transport: Coordinates special needs transport.
• Health Information Management (HIM) Coordination: Resolves minor chart issues and assists
• with release of information (ROI).
• Can include other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: High School or GED
• Experience: 1 year of patient access experience
