ECU Health Medical Center seeks an experienced Patient Access professional to register patients, collect and interpret insurance information, and support billing processes. The role emphasizes strong interpersonal communication, accuracy in data entry, and adherence to privacy regulations.

Qualifications

• High School or GED or higher is required.
• 2 years Customer Service is required.
• 1 to 2 years of Registration and/or Billing experience within a healthcare setting is preferred.
• Excellent communication (both written and oral), detail orientation, organization, and multitasking skills required.
• Basic computer skills

Responsibilities

• Register patients and/or their representatives in a timely and efficient manner.
• Obtain demographic and insurance information for billing, compliance and release of information.
• Interview patients in stressful situations with strong interpersonal skills.
• Register patients in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
• Explain forms to meet privacy and regulatory requirements.
• Obtain signatures on required documents.
• Inform patients of clinic policies such as filing of insurance and consent to treatment.
• Prepare electronic financial folders with billing information and registrations.
• Operate office machines and coordinate vendor support when needed.
• Review physician orders for coding and routing purposes.
• Provide insurance benefits interpretation and counseling based on eligibility data.
• Maintain medical terminology skills and knowledge of payer regulations.
• Maintain and submit daily registration activity logs and productivity reports.
• Cross-train to perform other duties within Patient Access Services.
• Enter charges from forms into AR system; enter patient demographics and charges in computer system.
• Coordinate with inpatient unit to enter charges in designated database.
• Ensure timely and accurate entry of grant fund information for tracking and reporting purposes.
