Position Summary

The Patient Access Specialist promotes a positive patient and family experience as the first impression of the hospital. Responsibilities include efficient registration, obtaining accurate patient demographic, financial information, and required consents, using online verification systems to ensure accuracy and expedite payment. The role involves communication with clinics and ancillary services regarding insurance coverage, ensuring compliance with regulations, and minimizing patient wait times to improve satisfaction.

Responsibilities
  • Registration, preregistration, insurance verification, and eligibility checks
  • Identify and communicate patient financial obligations
  • Collect payments and refer to financial counseling as needed
  • Obtain initial authorizations and notify payers of patient arrivals
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education preferred
  • Medical Terminology certification preferred
  • 1-2 years registration or healthcare revenue cycle experience preferred
  • Knowledge of eligibility verification, insurance authorizations, and medical terminology preferred
Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Proficiency with Windows-based PCs and data entry
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Knowledge of hospital policies, insurance requirements, and problem-solving skills
