Job summary

Indiana University Health System's Psychiatry Department in the Neuroscience Center seeks an organized front-line administrative specialist. You will answer calls, schedule appointments, verify patient details, and help maintain smooth clinic operations, ensuring timely access and positive patient experiences.

Onsite, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, you will work with office staff, learn medical coding concepts, and support adherence to IU Health workflows.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Healthcare setting experience preferred.
• Ability to learn medical coding concepts; ICD-10 and CPT coding preferred.
• Ability to interpret insurance information; knowledge of clinical practices and medical terminology preferred.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

Responsibilities

• Provide phone support for multiple office staff within the Psychiatry Department.
• Answer incoming calls and route messages appropriately.
• Schedule, reschedule, and manage patient appointments.
• Support message pool workflows.
• Facilitate patient flow from entry to destination in a timely, professional manner.
• Obtain and verify patient demographic and financial information to ensure accurate records.
• Interview patients to gather appropriate medical information.
• Direct patients and visitors accurately and courteously.
