Job summary

UPMC Altoona Regional Health Services seeks a full-time Central Scheduling Representative to join a dedicated team. Schedule appointments, verify insurance, and coordinate access to care within the hospital system.

The role supports patient access and strives to meet the 72-hour appointment goal, with a Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm schedule and strong emphasis on accuracy and service.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Escalate to appropriate clinical or supervisory personnel as needed and document telephone encounters.
• Obtain chief complaints to schedule accurately.
• Coordinate access to care for patients across department/location.
• Schedule appointments according to physician templates for similar physicians.
• Verify the patient's insurance information.
• Attend department meetings and ongoing training programs.
• Answer multi-line telephone system; manage calls within daily targets.
• Triage and route calls to billing, nurses, or operations leads as needed.
• Treat patients with respect per the Patient Ambassador program.
• Verify and enter patient demographics to maintain data integrity.
• Take incoming calls demonstrating Telephone Courtesy Standards.
• Schedule per scripts while meeting scheduling accuracy requirements.
• Provide directions, parking information, and appointment prep; work at multiple sites as requested.
• Compile and send new patient packets or flag patients for arrival.
• Monitor patient wait list report.
• Understand UPMC 72-hour appointment requirement and ensure guidelines are met.
• Answer questions about prescriptions, triage issues, insurances, and physicians.
