Job summary

UPMC Altoona Regional Health Services seeks a full-time Managed Care Specialist to join their team at Altoona Station Medical Center. The role handles test scheduling, pre-certifications, and patient coordination to ensure timely access to services.

The candidate will answer calls, obtain required authorizations, maintain patient rosters, and communicate clearly with physicians, staff, and patients. Daylight shifts Monday through Friday, generous benefits.

Qualifications

• Familiar with medical terminology and common managed care terminology.
• Minimum six months related experience or training.
• Licensure or certification per program: Act 34 with renewal.
• Graduate of accredited medical secretary/administrative assistant programs or LPN program.

Responsibilities

• Answer all incoming calls in the test scheduling area and schedule all testing requested by physician within the group practice.
• Obtain testing pre-certifications and insurance authorizations for patients.
• Assist with roster management and related duties as assigned.
• Relay messages and route information to appropriate staff.
• Ensure timely flow of information to specialists, PCPs, staff and patients.
• Provide patients with complete information on tests/procedures and prep requirements.
• Schedule diagnostic testing or procedures as needed for patients.
• Pre-certify patient services and obtain necessary approvals for hospital services, admissions, etc.
• Apply managed care product rules to every task to ensure contractual compliance.
• Update patient charts with appointment dates, prep instructions; print materials as needed.
• Coordinate with HIS Department when sending information to consulting physician offices.
• Work with manager to maintain files and support quality assurance and utilization review.
