Job Summary: Geisinger's Patient Access Representatives (PARs) are excellent communicators who handle patient inquiries daily — maintaining empathy, professionalism, and a positive patient experience.

Job Duties:

  1. Provide front line support to the department, coordinating and performing office activities effectively and efficiently.
  2. Greet and register incoming patients, support the patient check-out process, and schedule future appointments as applicable.
  3. Check patients in for appointments and verify demographics accurately.
  4. Monitor patient wait times, complete check-in procedures, and communicate changes to patients.
  5. Read and interpret insurance responses.
  6. Understand general guidelines and insurance requirements to assign primary, secondary, and tertiary insurance correctly.
  7. Ensure patients receive necessary disclosures and privacy information, and obtain legal and financial signatures.
  8. Communicate financial obligations and collect fees at the time of service as appropriate.
  9. Complete regulatory forms with patients and explain their purpose.
  10. Schedule follow-up appointments, including specialty or ancillary services.
  11. Process messages related to patient and physician requests regarding appointments, referrals, prescriptions, and complaints.
  12. Notify patients or guarantors of anticipated financial responsibilities and collect payments accordingly.
  13. Perform cash posting following departmental guidelines.
  14. Adhere to organizational and HIPAA guidelines, maintaining patient confidentiality and rights.
  15. Manage work queues independently to resolve accounts timely.
  16. Maintain productivity and quality performance standards.
  17. Maintain high regard for confidentiality.
  18. Perform accurate medical record maintenance and releases.
  19. Assist with referrals and pre-certifications during encounters.
  20. Utilize and maintain patient recall and reschedule lists properly.
