Hilo Benioff Medical Center's Patient Access Representative serves as the first point of contact for patients and their families. Patient Access Representatives work in different environments, including bedside registration in the emergency department, the Admitting office and hospital switchboard. To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hr workweek.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Candidates who do not meet the requirements for experience are eligible for casual hire (non-benefited) Patient Access Representative I positions.
General Experience Two (2) years of typing, stenographic, clerical work, cashiering, data input, customer service skills or any combination of these experiences which duties demonstrated knowledge of English grammar, spelling, arithmetic, standard office equipment; and the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, carry out procedures in clerical work systems, speak and write simply and directly, observe difference in copy and proofread words and numbers quickly and accurately, and operate various kinds of office equipment; and ability to deal effectively with others in eliciting information and providing service.
An Associate\u2019s or Bachelor\u2019s from an accredited college or university may substitute for all of the General Experience required. Evidence of the appropriate training (e.g. official transcript or diploma) should be submitted with the application to be given credit for education. A legible photocopy will be accepted. However, HMC reserves the right to request an official copy.

* Rates listed for paid holidays, vacation and sick days are for 1.0 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) positions assigned to 8 hour shifts. Accruals for these benefits are otherwise prorated based on FTE.
Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
