Job Overview:
The Patient Access Representative I plays a vital role in our healthcare system by providing excellent customer service, ensuring timely patient throughput, and accurately capturing all necessary data. The role involves greeting patients in a friendly manner, treating all customers with respect, and ensuring accurate collection and documentation of demographic and insurance information using available technology.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School Diploma
- Customer Service Experience
Preferred:
- Patient Access Experience
- Knowledge of registration processes, billing regulations, and state programs such as Charity Care
- Medical terminology and computer skills
Scheduling Requirements:
- Day shift, 10:30am-7:00pm
- Monday through Friday
- One Saturday per month, 7:30am-1:00pm
- Full-Time, 40 hours/week
Essential Functions:
- Provide excellent customer service to patients and staff
- Interview patients and responsible parties to gather demographic and financial information
- Accurately document demographic and insurance information
- Verify insurance coverage and complete financial clearance activities
- Meet department goals for accuracy, collections, and productivity
- Ensure all forms are completed, explained, and signed
- Inform patients of financial responsibilities and process payments
- Support cashier functions as needed
- Complete Medicare questionnaires for eligible patients
- Review work queues daily for accuracy and updates
- Manage patient bed assignments and maintain bed board accuracy
- Demonstrate proficiency in pre-admission, registration, and financial clearance
- Verify demographic information to prevent duplicate records
- Follow policies on Advance Directives and Patient Rights
- Provide regulatory documents and obtain signatures
- Maintain department productivity and seek additional duties when possible
- Prioritize customer needs and monitor service quality
- Proactively resolve issues and escalate when necessary
- Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment
- Collaborate with nursing and ancillary departments
- Participate in training and develop training tools
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Utilize AIDET communication principles:
- Acknowledge patients, smile, make eye contact, call by name
- Introduce yourself and explain your role
- Duration: inform patients how long activities will take
- Explain procedures to put patients at ease
- Thank patients and express appreciation
