Patient Access Representative – Family Practice (Per Diem/Relief, Variable)
PeaceHealth is seeking a Patient Access Representative. The salary range is $23.16 – $31.26. The hiring rate depends on factors such as education, training, experience, collective bargaining agreement, seniority, and other considerations.
Job Summary
Assists in coordinating activities between scheduling, insurance verification, and pre‑certification. Acts as a clinical liaison with physician practices interacting with pre‑visit services.
Details of the Position
- Pre-registers and registers patients with accurate demographic and financial data; may use varying methods depending on location, including mobile cart.
- Collects patient balances, co‑payment, co‑insurance, or other payment types.
- Verifies coverage and ensures all insurance requirements are met, including obtaining prior authorization and/or referrals as appropriate before patient arrival.
- Responds to customer inquiries.
- Assists with departmental coverage as needed.
- Manages daily appointment schedules, which may include reminder calls and calling all referrals.
- May transport patients using escort or wheeled transport equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What You Bring
- High School Diploma preferred, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year required in medical office or related customer service experience.
- Preferred: Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and CPT/ICD‑10 coding (preferred).
- Knowledge of insurance process and regulations (preferred).
- Must be capable of managing conflict effectively and professionally (required).
- Excellent time‑management skills, with emphasis on meeting time‑sensitive deadlines (required).
- Good customer service and interpersonal skills (required).
Department / Location Specific Notes
- Strong background in customer service may be considered in lieu of medical office or related experience.
Working Conditions
- Consistently operates computer and other office equipment.
- Occasionally exerts up to 10 pounds of force, or frequently or constantly exerts negligible force, to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Sedentary work.
- Predominantly operates in an office environment.
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
- Requires close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, and reading at a computer terminal.
