Job summary

Trinity Health is seeking an ER Registration Clerk at the Grand Rapids Emergency Department. You will greet patients and families, verify demographics, insurance information and collect signatures, entering data into the patient accounting system.

The role involves processing physician orders, conducting online eligibility checks, notifying guarantors, and guiding patients toward financial counseling when needed. You will support patients and visitors in a fast-paced, care-focused environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; Associate's degree preferred.
• Data entry speed of 50–60 keystrokes per minute.
• One year of applicable experience in a healthcare provider or payer environment preferred.
• Fluent experience with various software programs and ability to use multiple systems during the interview process.
• Basic computer skills; knowledge of medical terminology is a plus.
• Excellent communication (verbal and written) and strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Register patients in the Emergency Department and verify demographics, clinical, financial and insurance information.
• Enter patient information into the accounting system, obtain signatures, and scan documents.
• Obtain and process signed physician orders, perform online insurance eligibility/benefit verification, notify patient/guarantor and collect liabilities, refer to financial counseling as needed.
• Provide escort and directional support to patients, family members and visitors.
• Enhance the patient experience during all patient interactions, with emphasis on face-to-face engagement.

About the Position

In an Emergency Room setting, greets patients and family members and obtains and verifies demographic, clinical, financial and insurance information in the process of registering patients for service delivery. Enters patient/guarantor data in patient accounting system; collects patient signatures on forms; and scans registration documents. Obtains and processes signed physician orders, conducts online insurance eligibility/benefit verification on designated cases, notifies patient/guarantor and collects patient liabilities, and refers appropriate cases to financial counseling for follow-up and consultation. May provide escort and directional support to patients, family members and visitors. Enhances the patient experience throughout all patient interactions, the majority of which are face-to-face.

Requirements

• Required: High school diploma. Preferred: Associate's Degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Data entry skills (50-60 keystrokes per minutes). Prefer one year of applicable experience in a healthcare provider or payer environment.
• Must have fluid experience with various software programs and ability use multiple systems to obtain or validate information during the interview process.
• Basic computer skills. Preferred: Working knowledge of medical terminology.
