Job summary

CHI Williston Health, now part of CommonSpirit Health, seeks a Patient Access Representative to guide patients through registration, scheduling, and insurance verification at key access points like the Emergency Department and main admitting desk.

You will maintain accurate patient records in the electronic health record, clearly communicate financial responsibilities, and resolve discrepancies to ensure seamless clinical and billing workflows, even during peak periods.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED at hire.
  • Preferred: 1 year healthcare experience in patient access.
  • Knowledge of patient registration, health insurance payers, and real-time eligibility verifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient registration at assigned access points with accurate demographics, benefits verification, and confidential EHR documentation.
  • Scan, index, and manage patient documentation to support registration, billing, and clinical workflows.
  • Explain patient financial responsibilities using education tools and scripts; collect payments when appropriate.
  • Schedule, confirm, and revise patient appointments to support timely access to care and clinic workflows.
  • Identify and resolve routine registration, insurance, and encounter discrepancies; escalate complex issues per workflow.
  • Provide patient-facing support via telephone and other approved channels, answering inquiries and routing calls.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As ourPatient Access Representativeat CHI Williston Health,you will helppatients and their familiesnavigate the registration process so they canaccess the high-quality care they need without delay.

Every day you willserve as the face of our facility, managing registration, scheduling, and insurance verification across key access points like the Emergency Department and main admitting desk.You will be expected tomaintain meticulous accuracy in patient records, communicate financial responsibilities clearly, and resolve discrepancies to ensure seamless clinical and billing workflows.

To be successful in this role, you mustpossess strong attention to detail, proficiency in electronic health record systems, and the ability to provide compassionate, professional service to patients even during high-volume periods.

  • Perform patient registration functions across assigned access points, ensuring accurate demographic information, insurance eligibility and benefits verification, and complete, confidential documentation within the electronic health record.
  • Accurately scan, index, and manage patient documentation to support registration, billing, and clinical workflows in accordance with organizational standards.
  • Communicate patient financial responsibility using established education tools and scripts, including estimates and patient liabilities, and collect payments at the time of service as appropriate.
  • Schedule, confirm, and revise patient appointments to support timely access to care and adherence to provider and clinic workflows.
  • Identify and resolve routine registration, insurance, and encounter discrepancies; follow established workflows to escal complex or non standard issues.
  • Provide patient-facing support via telephone and other approved communication channels, including answering inquiries, routing calls, and documenting interactions per standard procedures.
Job Requirements
Required
  • High School Diploma or GED, upon hire
Preferred
  • 1 year relevant experience in healthcare, patient access setting, along with knowledge of the following: patient registration procedures and documentation, knowledge of health insurance payers, and real-time insurance eligibility verifications.
