More About Our Team

At Highpoint Health - Trousdale, our Patient Access team works in a small, close-knit hospital environment where collaboration, dependability, and exceptional service are valued. With a lower patient volume than many large facilities, team members have the opportunity to build relationships across departments while gaining experience registering patients across the full continuum-from Emergency Department and outpatient services to inpatient and swing-bed care.

How You'll Contribute
  • Greet patients and visitors and provide a welcoming, professional first impression of the facility.
  • Register patients for Emergency Department, outpatient, inpatient, and swing-bed services, ensuring demographic, insurance, financial, billing, and other required information is collected and accurately entered into the registration system.
  • Verify insurance coverage and benefits and obtain precertification or authorizations when required.
  • Determine and collect applicable co-pays, deductibles, and other patient payments at the point of service; refer patients to financial counseling when appropriate.
  • Distribute and explain required forms, documents, and educational materials to patients and families.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with patients and families in person and by phone, including individuals who may be ill, concerned, frustrated, or upset.
  • Demonstrate empathy and professionalism when addressing patient questions or concerns and assist with de-escalating difficult interactions when necessary.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality and appropriately safeguard protected health information.
  • Utilize Meditech and other required systems to accurately and efficiently complete registration activities.
  • Work independently after completion of training while using sound judgment and seeking assistance when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Patient Access colleagues, nursing, clinical departments, and facility leadership to support efficient patient flow and hospital operations.
  • Provide coverage across registration functions and adjust to alternate shifts or areas as needed to support department staffing and operational needs.
  • Participate in required education, competency training, and performance-improvement activities.
What We're Looking For

Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent. Additional requirements include:

  • Previous patient registration, healthcare, medical office, clerical, or customer service experience preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience working directly with the public; experience serving an elderly population is a plus.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate professionally and compassionately with a diverse patient population.
  • Ability to remain calm, empathetic, and professional when interacting with patients or family members who may be upset, frustrated, or experiencing a stressful situation.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to accurately collect and enter patient information.
  • Comfortable using computers as a regular part of daily work and able to quickly learn and navigate multiple software applications.
  • Ability to learn and retain new processes, terminology, and registration procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision and independently once fully trained.
  • Dependable with a strong commitment to attendance and punctuality.
  • Flexible and team-oriented, with the ability to adjust to changing coverage needs in a small hospital environment.
  • Ability to effectively read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to complete required education and competency requirements within established timeframes.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 11:00am - 7:00 PM.
