Job summary

Baptist Health - Central Alabama is seeking a Patient Registration Specialist to handle pre-registration, registration, payer verification, and financial counseling referrals. The role ensures accurate data entry for patient demographics and benefits, and collects patient financial responsibility at the point of service.

The position requires familiarity with Medicare/Medicaid rules, HIPAA, and EMTALA, and the ability to work both independently and in a team to meet deadlines in a hospital

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent required.
• Associate’s degree in healthcare or business-related field preferred.
• Bilingual capability (English/Spanish) desirable.
• At least 2 years’ experience in a medical or hospital patient access or financial services environment preferred.
• Training experience a plus.
• Knowledge of government programs such as Medicare and Medicaid.

Responsibilities

• Pre-registration and registration of patients; payer identification and verification.
• Refer patients to financial counseling; assist with point of service collections.
• Ensure demographic and benefit data entered into computer systems is accurate.
• Verify benefits eligibility and coordination of benefits; determine patient financial responsibility.
• Understand HIPAA, EMTALA, Medicare Secondary Payer requirements and related regulations.
