Job summary

Palmetto General Hospital is seeking a patient registration specialist to verify, update, and collect demographic and financial data for all hospital departments. You will greet patients, gather information, and ensure accuracy across systems.

Responsibilities include obtaining signatures on forms, educating patients about financial responsibilities, adhering to HIPAA and CMS guidelines, and working with multiple departments to deliver courteous service.

Qualifications

• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to discuss and collect patient financial responsibility.
• Knowledge of CMS guidelines including HIPAA, EMTALA and MSP.

Responsibilities

• Greet and direct patients and visitors to appropriate nursing units and departments.
• Obtain, verify and update patient demographic and regulatory data.
• Educate patients on financial responsibility and potential solutions.
• Obtain signatures and distribute forms such as General Consent, Patient Rights, NoPP, IMM, COB, ABN.
• Follow policies, procedures and use of tools and software.
• Knowledge and accurate use of CMS guidelines including HIPAA, EMTALA, MSP.
• Work effectively with fellow co-workers and all other hospital departments.
• Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
• Commit to recognize and respect cultural diversity for all customers (internal and external).
• Meets performance standards established by leadership, including but not limited to registration quality, point of service collections, confidentiality and customer service.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
