Job summary

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Medical terminology with good customer service preferred.
• Willingness to be cross trained to other areas.
• Organizational skills are necessary.
• Good written and verbal communication skills required.
• Ability to read, write and speak English.
• Ability to communicate clearly with nursing, administration, and physicians.

Responsibilities

• Promotes the facility mission, vision and values in all services and practices.
• Demonstrates excellent customer service and telephone etiquette; treat all customers with dignity and respect.
• Ensures patient confidentiality per HIPAA policies.
• Obtains required demographic information to register the patient accurately.
• Communicates with doctor’s offices to obtain orders and medical necessity information.
• Reviews and confirms patient financial information, insurance carrier details and policy information.
• Uses online verification systems for eligibility checks.
• Explains rates and estimates charges; discusses up-front collections as needed.
• Opens and closes cash batches with proper naming conventions; provides receipts.
• Determines financial status and refers patients for financial screening as appropriate.
• Performs appointment scheduling and registers patients for ancillary services.
• Initiates order management to enter patient orders.
• Reviews prior visit records to determine status of unpaid balances.
• Handles over-the-counter payments from patients and posts payments to accounts.
• Ensures pre-authorization/pre-certification requirements are met.
• Completes MSP forms when appropriate.
• Informs patients about admission conditions and obtains signatures.
• Scans ID and insurance cards; organizes documents in the system.
• Prints or re-prints forms and labels as needed.
• Places appropriate wrist identifiers on patients.
