Job summary

Baton Rouge Health District is seeking a Patient Access Representative 1 to accurately register inpatients, outpatients, and ER patients in the EMR, while validating demographics and insurance coverage. The role emphasizes effective communication with patients, families, physicians, nurses, and insurers to ensure a smooth start to care.

The PAR1 will manage authorizations, balance cash, collect co-pays, and ensure compliant, timely registration in a fast-paced, on-site environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year customer service experience or related certification (e.g. Certified Coder, Certified Medical Assistant) substitutes for 1 year of experience.
• Knowledge of registration workflows and basic healthcare terminology is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Register patients accurately in the EMR, verify demographics and insurance information.
• Obtain signatures on required documents and ensure patient privacy per HIPAA guidelines.
• Verify insurance coverage, obtain authorizations, and explain financial responsibilities to patients.
• Balance cash and reconcile receipts; collect co-pays/deductibles and document transactions.
