Job summary

Chesapeake Regional Healthcare is seeking a Registrar II to join the Patient Access Department. You will be the first contact for most patients, handling registrations, insurance verification, financial counseling, and pre/post-service collections to support accurate billing and patient satisfaction.

The role requires a high school diploma, 2+ years in patient registration, and relevant certifications; associates degree and ICD knowledge are preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum education includes a high school diploma.
• Certification in RCCP 1 or CHAA within 12 months.
• Preferred associ ate degree in healthcare or related field with knowledge of medical terminology, ICD, and insurance.
• Experience: at least two years in patient registration; ER or medical office; understanding of financial and insurance information; customer service; data entry; Windows environment.

Responsibilities

• Manages registrations for patients for various hospital services; aims for registration times of ≤10 minutes.
• Interviews and accurately collects patient information and demographics; maintains accuracy of medical records.
• Verifies and reviews insurance benefits and financial information for patients.
• Handles point-of-service payments, cash receipting, and posting payments.
• Assists patients with financial clearance, payment plans, and referrals to financial counselors.
• Maintains productivity to meet scorecard standards.
• Obtains necessary authorizations and notifications for high-risk admissions/registrations.
• Assists with training of new staff and sharing departmental knowledge.
• Manages scanning of patient medical records as required.
• Provides courteous service and resolves stakeholder inquiries to strengthen relationships.
• Complies with HIPAA and billing rules and department policies.
• Demonstrates awareness of confidentiality and participates in service recovery.
