Job summary

Emerus is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to serve as a liaison between patients, payers and the care team. You will collect demographic data, verify insurance coverage and help secure payments to maximize hospital reimbursements.

The role requires EMTALA/HIPAA knowledge, excellent service, and the ability to work with diverse populations. Various shifts and hospital settings may apply across markets.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service.
• Fluency in English; bilingual English/Spanish may be required in certain markets.
• Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all other hospital and government regulations applicable to Admissions and handling of Medical Records.
• Provide excellent customer service at all times by effectively meeting customer needs and building relationships.
• Identify and triage patients on arrival to ensure proper identification and safety.
• Answer telephone in a professional manner and relay messages to medical staff.
• Obtain signatures on required forms and consents.
• Verify and enter complete demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle.
• Verify insurance benefits and confirm correct payor and plan.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
• Assist in timely collections at the point of service with customer service focus.
• Scan and file registrations and clinical documentation.
• Coordinate patient transfers between hospitals when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer per policies.
• Log patients, payments, transfers and admissions.
• Maintain visitor/vendor log.
