Job summary

Nicklaus Children’s Health System is seeking a Patient Access Clerk to greet patients and families, collect demographic and insurance information, and schedule or pre-register for services.

The role includes obtaining authorizations, collecting payments when required, and documentation in the hospital system. Spanish language skills are strongly preferred and confidentiality is essential.

Qualifications

• 1 year of customer service experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
• Fluent in Spanish strongly preferred.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients and families in person or on the telephone in a respectful manner.
• Interviews patients to obtain demographic and insurance information to schedule or pre-register.
• Obtains authorization for hospital services and follows up until received.
• Collects payments and provides receipts.
• Verifies third party payer information and notifies management of discrepancies.
• Documents activities in the hospital system and ensures correct patient routing.
• Directs families to appropriate locations and ensures patient accompanies with guardian when required.
• Notifies patients of deductibles and co-payments and handles on-site payments.
