Job summary

ECU Health SurgiCenter in Greenville, NC seeks an Insurance Verifier to manage pre-registration, insurance verification, and financial clearance for outpatient and inpatient services. The role requires 2–4 years in registration/insurance with strong communication and EPIC experience.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree preferred.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• 2–4 years of Registration, Scheduling and Insurance Authorization experience in a healthcare setting is required.
• 5 years of customer service experience is required.
• Excellent communication (written and oral), detail orientation, organization, and multitasking skills required.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word and Excel).
• Experience with EPIC and medical office workflows.

Responsibilities

• Conducts phone interview and completes pre-certification and insurance verification process prior to the patient's scheduled arrival.
• Collects complete demographic, financial, and clinical information to properly enter into the electronic health record for hospital registration.
• Obtains diagnosis and procedure information to perform ABN/Medical Necessity screening.
• Reviews registration accounts for accuracy to ensure proper reimbursement.
• Coordinate certification process with physician offices and utilization review/case management.
• Resolves insurance verification and financial clearance issues before or during hospital service.
• Pre-registers patient by transcribing data from the doctor's office.
• Negotiates deposits and payment arrangements with patients or guarantors and collects copayments or other uninsured balances.
• Explains financial obligations and collects copayments.
• Verify insurance benefits using Passport or other applications to obtain authorizations.
• Cross-train to perform other division functions.
• Coaches new staff; provides feedback to management.
• Ensure scheduling and registration reports and work queues are addressed.
• Assist management with special projects and reports.
• Lead capacity for departmental goals and initiatives.
• Other duties as assigned.
