Job summary

Parkland Health and Hospital System is seeking a patient access specialist to perform registration, verify insurance, obtain precertifications, and provide preliminary financial counseling to support Parkland's financial viability.

Qualified candidates have a minimum of 2 years in health care registration or related roles, knowledge of medical/insurance terminology, and experience with EPIC and other hospital systems.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' experience in hospital/clinical or health care setting.
• General knowledge of patient access financial counseling functions a plus.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology and insurance terminology.
• Ability to work multiple computer systems such as patient, registration/accounting system, document imaging, scanning, proprietary payer websites and data quality monitoring, both accurately and efficiently.
• Prior experience in patient access, billing, cash collections, insurance, appointment scheduling preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients, family members, peers, and leadership in a professional, friendly, and respectful manner to promote a positive public image of Parkland.
• Obtain, verify, and update accurate demographic, financial, and insurance information in the process of registration.
• Reviews patient accounts for financial status to identify non-funded and/or under-funded patients and refers appropriate cases for counseling.
• Educate patients about financial liabilities and employ proper patient liability collection techniques.
• Clearly document actions taken in account notes and track productivity/quality for reporting.
