Job summary

Parkland Health is seeking a Financial Counselor to interview patients at entry, advise on optimal funding programs, determine eligibility, and ensure Parkland patients are screened and qualified for assistance.

Requirements include a high school diploma/GED and at least two years of experience in financial eligibility for government or public funding in a hospital setting; knowledge of medical terminology is preferred, with bilingual skills helping in extensive patient interactions.

Qualifications

• Must have 2 years of experience determining financial eligibility for government funding or public funding in a hospital setting.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Knowledge of third party payors and insurance verification, and public assistance programs.
• Ability to communicate with patients, families, government entities, insurance companies, and Parkland staff.
• Bilingual skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Screen patient demographics and financial documentation to identify funding programs and ensure eligibility is properly instructed.
• Assist patients in completing certification with public funding sources to expedite the process.
• Communicate financial responsibility, collect co-pays, and post payments in the computer system.
• Balance cash drawer and document actions in the hospital accounting system.
• Perform registration functions, verify patient identification and third party funding payors.
• Track productivity and provide daily/weekly/monthly reports.
• Maintain positive relationships with agencies, patients, insurers, and staff to promote Parkland's public image.
