Patient Access Coordinator (Finance)



Under the immediate supervision of the Manager of Patient Access, this role is responsible for ensuring a positive patient experience at Huggins Hospital Provider Practices or centralized services. The primary functions include:
  1. Scheduling & Appointment Integrity: Responsible for scheduling, interviewing, and pre-registering all patients using Huggins Hospital Provider Services. Answers calls related to scheduling, introduces providers, shares operational hours and locations, and assists patients to ensure efficient flow through scheduling and registration systems. Schedules patients in Allscripts according to their needs and appointment types.
  2. Registration Integrity & Check-in: Enters demographic and insurance information into Allscripts and Evident systems, completes MSP for Medicare patients, and ensures adherence to best practices and processes outlined.
  3. Office Duties: Maintains office machinery, keeps the environment clean and organized, and performs other administrative duties as assigned. Provides cross-coverage across all practices.

Communication: Ensures excellent patient service, provides necessary appointment information, maintains confidentiality, answers calls politely, prepares patients for appointments, documents appropriately in EMR, and communicates effectively with providers and staff. Verifies insurance eligibility, collects co-payments, and answers billing inquiries.

Organizational Expectations: Maintains attendance, HIPAA compliance, effective communication, positive interpersonal relationships, and workplace safety.

Employee Engagement: Participates in service initiatives, attends staff meetings, completes annual education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must manage physical and mental demands, communicate effectively, and be familiar with computer systems.

Qualifications: Prior healthcare experience and strong computer skills preferred; excellent interpersonal and detail-oriented skills required.
