Job summary

Emerus is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to join our admissions team in Milwaukee. You will be the liaison between patients, payers, and clinical staff to verify demographics, secure payment responsibilities and support smooth revenue cycle processes.

Ideal candidates hold a High School Diploma or GED with 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience, and possess strong English communication skills. Spanish is a plus in relevant markets.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification in healthcare.
• Emergency Department registration experience preferred.
• Knowledge of HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid plans and payors.
• Basic medical terminology knowledge.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Proficient in MS Office applications.
• English fluency; Spanish beneficial in certain markets.
• Act 33 & Act 73 clearances completed or obtained prior to start date.

Responsibilities

• Maintain EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and related regulatory compliance.
• Deliver exemplary customer service and build patient relationships.
• Identify and triage patients upon arrival to ensure safety.
• Handle phone calls, messages, and communication with medical staff.
• Obtain signatures on forms and consents as required.
• Enter complete demographic data to support revenue cycle.
• Verify insurance benefits and correct payor/plans in systems.
• Obtain insurance authorizations when needed.
• Assist with collections at the point of service.
• Scan medical records and maintain documentation.
• Coordinate patient transfers to other facilities as needed.
• Respond to records requests from patients, physicians, and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer and log patient activity and admissions.
