Job summary

Emerus is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to serve as a liaison between patients, payers, and health care teams. You will collect demographic data, verify insurance, and secure out-of-pocket responsibilities to maximize hospital reimbursement.

Responsibilities include ensuring accurate registration, obtaining authorizations, and supporting the revenue cycle while delivering excellent customer service in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience preferred.
  • Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) knowledge preferred.
  • English fluency required; bilingual English/Spanish a plus in certain markets.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA compliance and hospital regulations in Admissions and medical records handling.
  • Provide excellent customer service by meeting needs and building relationships.
  • Identify and triage patients to protect safety upon arrival.
  • Answer phone professionally and relay messages to staff.
  • Obtain signatures on forms and consents.
  • Enter complete demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle processing.
  • Verify insurance benefits and ensure correct payor and plan in the system.
  • Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
  • Assist in collecting payments at the time of service.
  • Scan and file registration and clinical documents.
  • Coordinate patient transfers to other hospitals when needed.
  • Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians, and hospitals.
  • Maintain cash drawer per policies.
  • Log patients, payments, transfers and admissions.
  • Maintain visitor/vendor logs.
  • Keep the front desk area clean and organized.
  • Receive mail and deliveries and route accordingly.
  • Report malfunctioning equipment and maintenance needs.
  • Attend staff meetings as required.
  • Assist medical staff as needed.
