Job summary

DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit seeks a Patient Access/Admitting specialist to register patients, verify insurance, and pre-register for services. You will collect data, advise patients on billing, and facilitate referrals in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

Join our team to support bed management, coordinate schedules, and communicate with patients and providers. Prior experience in hospital admissions or billing is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required or desirable.
• Experience in hospital healthcare insurance, medical records, billing, or related area is preferred.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology is desirable.
• 6–12 months of computer/information management experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Greet and register patients; collect and verify demographic, insurance, and related data.
• Schedule appointments, issue notices, and manage cancellations per policy.
• Verify insurance coverage and benefits; obtain authorizations and referrals.
• Provide financial counseling to help patients identify payment options.
• Ensure accurate data entry and compliance with payer requirements.
• Assist nursing/technical staff with patient registration and related duties.
