Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Patient Access Associate to verify and prepare patient accounts for inpatient and outpatient billing, ensuring accurate demographic and insurance information is captured.

You will work with patients to set up payment arrangements, assist with financial assistance programs, and help collect copays and deductibles while providing excellent service.

Qualifications

• Excellent customer service skills are required.
• Knowledge of insurance plans and benefits.
• Minimum typing skills of 35-40 wpm (certified typing test results required).
• Ability to interpret and apply financial procedures and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Consistently confirms, enters, and updates demographic data in registration systems daily.
• Secures copies of insurance cards, forms of ID, and signatures and scans them.
• Completes MSP questionnaire when applicable.
• Discusses Advanced Directives with patients and obtains copies.
• Reviews regulatory forms and information with patients (Notice of Privacy Practice, Billing).
• Verifies insurance using Real Time Eligibility and coordinates referrals as required.
• Registers patients during downtime and enters data promptly when systems are available.
• Performs Service Recovery at the point of service with patients and visitors.
• Collects, posts, and reconciles all payments from patients.
