Job summary

Bon Secours St Francis Hospital in Greenville, SC, is seeking a Patient Access / Admitting Clerk to perform admitting duties for hospital services and assign MRNs. You will verify medical necessity, collect insurance data, and process physician orders while delivering exceptional customer service at the on-site location.

Your responsibilities include pre-registration, insurance verification, billing support, and handling calls through the hospital switchboard to meet service goals.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of customer service experience.
• Must be inquisitive and demonstrate openness to AI innovation to improve processes.
• High School Diploma/GED required.
• CRCR within 9 months of hire.
• Must reside and be authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Perform admitting duties for all patients admitted for hospital services.
• Assign accurate medical record numbers (MRNs).
• Complete medical necessity and compliance checks.
• Provide patient instructions and excellent customer service.
• Collect insurance information and process physician orders.

• Use quality auditing and reporting systems to correct accounts.
• Conduct account audits and provide statistical data to Patient Access leadership.

• Collect point-of-service payments and past-due balances, including payment plan options.
• Explain consent and patient education forms, obtain signatures, and document witnesses.
• Review insurance eligibility responses, select insurance plan codes, and enter benefit data.
• Screen medical necessity using ABN software and distribute required forms.
