Job summary

Kaiser Permanente in California is seeking an entry-level Pathology Technical Assistant to assist with receipt, preparation and examination of surgical specimens and autopsies. You will log and process specimens, assist with gross examinations, and support clerical tasks in a hospital pathology lab.

The role requires organization, accuracy, and good communication in a fast-paced environment. This is an on-site position at Roseville Hospital with a standard day schedule.

Qualifications

• Current pathology experience including assisting in receipt and processing surgical specimens.
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to time constraints.
• Ability to read, write and speak English.
• AA in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Receives, transports, logs and prepares gross surgical and cytology specimens; may transport specimens from lab and surgery.
• Labels specimens, requisitions and cassettes with accession numbers; enters identifiers into the database.
• Disinfects area and instruments; assists with gross examination and fetal cadaver handling as needed.
• Maintains wet tissue storage and disposes of tissues per departmental procedures; handles reagents and hazardous wastes per regulations.
• Assists with clerical duties including filing, mail distribution and answering calls.
