Job summary

United Digestive Pathology Services in Alpharetta, GA is seeking a Pathology Lab Assistant (PRN) to organize and prep slides and maintain documentation, equipment, and supplies for the pathology lab.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, basic biology/chemistry knowledge, and at least 1 year of pathology lab experience with CLIA regulatory exposure. Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; working knowledge of biology, chemistry, histology, immunology, and mathematics is required.
• 1 year of clinical pathology experience preferred; 1 year with CLIA regulatory requirements is a plus.
• Must be computer literate and able to operate multiple Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Maintains diagnostic viability of all specimens received and ensures correct labeling of all materials.
• Completes sorting and accessioning of pathology specimens.
• Initiates daily grossing log with patient name, accession number, and slide protocol notes.
• Prepares specimen cassettes for each specimen.
• Prepares and organizes slides for distribution to the Pathologist.
• Identifies problems and brings to the attention of senior staff; troubleshoots with supervision.
• Responds to endoscopy center and physician requests related to pathology.
• Files and inventorys patient slides and blocks; manages lab supply inventory.
• Maintains lab equipment through upkeep and quality control checks.
