Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Pathologists’ Assistant to join the Histology Laboratory team in Massachusetts. This role focuses on gross examination, dissection and submission of specimens for histologic evaluation across commonly received specimens.

Under supervision of a board-certified Anatomic Pathologist, you will perform gross dissection, specimen submission, photography, and support process improvements, including handling frozen sections and training new staff.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, plus successful completion of an NAACLS accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program.
• Able to communicate effectively and work well with laboratory personnel and the pathologists on staff, as well as key individuals outside the department.
• PA (ASCP) required or eligible and in process; CAP standards for gross dissection.

Responsibilities

• Gross description and dissection (examination of surgical tissues).
• Submission and preparation of specimens for histologic and other laboratory testing.
• Gross specimen photography.
• Process improvement.
• Processing of frozen sections and/or touch preparations for rapid interpretation.
• Training of new employees within the appropriate scope of practice as necessary
• Technical review and writing of relevant procedures with the Anatomic Pathology Manager
• Attendance at all relevant meetings
• Maintaining equipment in work area
• Abiding by Hospital and Laboratory policies
• Maintaining a clean work environment
• Participation in organization of conferences
