Responsibilities

• Transcribe gross dictation and final pathology reports accurately and promptly.
• Verify patient and specimen information, resolving discrepancies, and clarifying ambiguous terminology.
• Add charges and CPT codes for technical component billing.
• Register outpatient surgical specimens and verify insurance information.
• Manage requests for consults on pathology cases and track submissions.
• Prepare quarterly QA reports and maintain pathology statistics.
• Review and reconcile billing for consultations and send-out testing.
• Prepare pathology billing files for submission to the billing service.
• Answer phones, facilitate requests for pathology reports, and monitor office supplies.
• Take minutes at department meetings and assist with software upgrades in the LIS.
• Perform QA on surgical/cytology accessions and call offices for patient history.
• Review Pap smear requisitions for billing and scan requisitions and results into the EMR.
