Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health in Minnesota is seeking a Pathologists’ Assistant to perform gross examination, dissection and submission of specimens for histologic evaluation in the Histology Laboratory. Under supervision of a board-certified Anatomic Pathologist, you will handle surgical tissues from initial description to submission.

The role requires a BA/BS and a NAACLS-accredited PA program, strong communication, and the ability to train staff.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university and successful completion of an NAACLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program.
• Ability to communicate effectively with laboratory personnel, pathologists and external contacts.
• PA (ASCP) certification required or eligible and in process.

Responsibilities

• Gross description and dissection of surgical tissues.
• Submission and preparation of specimens for histologic testing.
• Gross specimen photography.
• Process improvement.
• Handling of frozen sections and touch preparations for rapid interpretation.
• Training of new employees as needed.
• Technical review and writing of procedures with the Anatomic Pathology Manager.
• Attendance at relevant meetings.
• Maintenance of equipment in the work area.
• Compliance with hospital and laboratory policies.
• Maintain a clean work environment.
• Participation in conference organization.
