Above the Bar is expanding its IP team in California and is open to patent agents and attorneys at a range of experience levels. Hybrid schedule with multiple office locations in San Diego, Orange County, or Silicon Valley.

Role focuses on writing and prosecuting patents in electronics, computer hardware, software, and AI, collaborating with engineers and in-house legal teams, shaping claims to pass eligibility scrutiny, and guiding portfolio strategy, including international filings.

Formación

• Hands-on drafting and prosecution experience in patents.
• Ability to shape claims for eligibility and §101 considerations.

Location: San Diego, Orange County, or Silicon Valley, CA (Hybrid)

The work

• Writing and prosecuting patents in electronics, computer hardware, software, and AI
• Shaping claims to hold up under eligibility scrutiny, and winning § 101 arguments
• Partnering directly with engineers and in-house legal teams
• Helping clients spot and capture new inventions and build portfolio strategy
• Overseeing foreign filings through international counsel
• Working with modern, tech-enabled prosecution tools

You likely have

• Roughly 4+ years of hands-on drafting and prosecution
• Active and in good standing with the California State Bar
• A technical degree such as EE, CompE, CS, physics, or ME

The offer

• Flexible on title: open to patent agents through senior-level attorneys
• Hybrid schedule with several office locations to choose from
• Compensation: $190,000–$325,000 plus bonus, based on experience and qualifications
