Job summary

Community Action Wayne/Medina (CAW/M) is seeking a dependable Cook for part-time, part-year roles in Lodi, Ohio. The position involves preparing meals for Head Start centers, maintaining a clean kitchen, and adhering to food safety standards under the guidance of the Nutrition Manager.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma and some food service experience; a valid Ohio driver’s license may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required or preferred.
• Six months of food service experience is preferred; school/childcare kitchen experience is a plus.
• Basic knowledge of safe food handling, sanitation, and storage practices.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required food safety certification.
• Valid Ohio driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, including recipes and menus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve meals and snacks according to approved menus, portions, and program standards.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen and food service area.
• Follow safe food handling practices and monitor temperatures.
• Transport food to Head Start centers using approved containers and procedures.
• Assist with family-style meal service and cleanup and support children during mealtime.
• Follow dietary needs, allergies, and substitutions accurately.
• Support menu implementation and food service operations with Nutrition Manager and kitchen staff.
• Maintain required food service documentation and records.
• Maintain food safety training and comply with licensing and Head Start requirements.
