We are seeking qualified candidates forProfessional Tutor in the Writing Center.
The Pool positions are for applicants who are interested in workingin the future as an (part-time) Writing Center Tutor for theAcademic Support Department. The Pools are always open forapplications. However, this does not mean that we have animmediate opening in the division. The Pools function as a wayfor department chairs to view applicant materials in advance of aneed, and determine if the applicant will be approved or notapproved to be added to their pool of eligible applicants. Should apart-time need arise in the Academic Support Department, thedepartment chair will look first at the approved applicants to seeif anyone matches our needs, in which case they may make contact toschedule an interview

The Writing Center tutor performs one-on-one and small groupinstruction to assist students and aid student success. Theseresponsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent withMCC’s mission.
Assist students with various stages of the writing process,cross-discipline. Facilitate workshops and engage with faculty andstudent body as needed. Apply knowledge of writing to provideone-on-one and small group instruction to students as assigned.Provide great customer service. Perform other duties asassigned
- Demonstrated knowledge in all facets of the writingprocess.
- Apply knowledge of discipline to provide on-on-one and smallgroup instruction to student(s), cross-discipline.
- Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred.
- Bilingual Spanish/English preferred but not required.
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and toinitiate work with students independently.
- Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively withcomputerized systems. Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Officeproducts and Zoom. Experience with TracCloud preferred by notrequired.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of variousbackgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit ofcooperation, and positive reactions to change and conflictresolution.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication andpresentation skills, both written and oral, which transcendaudiences.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and relate wellwith students, faculty, staff, and others while maintainingappropriate confidentiality.
- Demonstrated motivational and problem solving capabilities witha high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to mission ofthe University.
- Must be able to work an irregular schedule, evenings, orweekends, additional hours during peak times or as required.
Essential Functions
- Facilitate writing as a guide and coach to assist the studentto become a successful, independent writer.
- Facilitate an increase and enhancement in student mastery ofwriting.
- Integrate effective strategies to maximize the student’spotential for improved writing and academic progress.
- Mentor and assist students and peer writing tutors asneeded.
- Maintain records, as required; assist in maintaining theprofessional appearance of the Writing Center area, including cleanup when necessary.
- Participate in all training sessions, professional development,and meetings.
- Administrative responsibilities and leadership duties asrequested by supervisor.
- Provides outstanding customer service, anticipating andexceeding the needs of our students, faculty, & staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
