Job summary

Western Nebraska Community College is seeking a Writing Center Tutor to work with a diverse student population, guiding them in writing techniques, grammar, and citation rules. The position is very part-time and as-needed during Writing Center hours.

You will support students individually and in groups with outlines, essays, and research papers, explain corrections, and help develop independent editing skills for long-term academic success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field preferred.
• Experience tutoring in higher education or English is preferred.
• Ability to explain grammar, citation rules, and editing strategies to diverse learners.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic instruction and support in English usage, writing techniques, and effective communication.
• Assist students individually and in small groups with outlines, essays, and research papers.
• Identify errors, explain corrections, and coach students through revisions.
• Support at-risk students with targeted strategies related to assignments.
• Reinforce sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, and academic writing styles.
