Job summary

Housing Matters is seeking a part-time Cook/Direct Services Coordinator (DSC) to prep, cook, and transport meals to residents at The Landing in Santa Cruz County. The role requires serving-safe certification, a valid CA driver’s license, and ability to lift 60 lbs.

Weekend shifts (Sat-Sun, 8:00 am–4:00 pm) are typical, with PTO eligibility and a commitment to housing-first strategies. The DSC/Cook works with kitchen staff and campus shelter teams, performing day-to-day institutional kitchen

Qualifications

• Regular standing, walking, sitting, crouching, stooping, transporting food in a vehicle, and communication are required.
• Requires manual dexterity for regular repetitive finger motion and frequent reaching, pulling, pushing, and lifting objects and operating equipment.
• Requires the ability to lift 60 lbs.
• Must be Serve-safe certified.
• Must have a valid California Driver’s License, insurance, and registered vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Preparing, cooking, and serving meals. Food must meet Serve-safe standards for taste and temperature.
• Safely use all kitchen equipment according to proper procedures.
• Wash dishes and kitchen equipment.
• Transport meals to The Landing (Live Oak Landing – ERP).
• Follow opening and closing procedures.
• Maintain cleaning and sanitizing protocols to ensure a safe environment.
• Support shelter programs and day services.
• Review and maintain accurate documentation for each program.
• Provide support to program staff.
• Attend staff and agency trainings and meetings as required.
