Job summary

Petco in State College, PA is seeking a part-time Veterinary Assistant to support Vetco Total Care in our hospital. You will greet clients, assist doctors, restrain patients, collect samples, and help with anesthesia under supervision.

Qualifications

• Preferred to have at least 1-year previous experience working in veterinary practice.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Telephone and computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments, record weight and vital signs, and document in EMR.
• Assist veterinarians with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia under supervision.
• Perform patient restraint, collect and process laboratory samples, and handle medications as directed.
• Schedule appointments, educate clients, relay test results, and maintain client/patient records.
• Help prepare patients for surgical/dental procedures and assist during anesthesia.
• Monitor patients under anesthesia and during recovery, preparing them for discharge or transfer.
• Provide in-hospital treatments including administering injectable/oral meds and IV fluids, and maintain patient care.
• Assist in training new staff and share knowledge as required.
• Keep hospital environment clean and maintain maintenance schedules.
