Job summary

Ball State University is seeking a Part Time Bus Driver to operate university buses on shuttle routes, transporting students, faculty, staff, and others. The role requires a valid CDL with a passenger endorsement and a clean driving record.

Shifts are Monday through Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., about 27.5 hours weekly. On-site work, with pre-employment testing and drug/alcohol screening. Apply by submitting required documents to the Transportation Office.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• At least six months of verified professional driving experience.
• Must pass on-site driving test.
• Must possess a valid CDL with an endorsement for public passengers and be insurable under university policy.
• Must maintain a clean driving record; verification through Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
• Must pass a post-offer/pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
• Ability to perform all mental and physical requirements described in duties.

Responsibilities

• Operate Ball State University buses on shuttle routes to transport students, faculty, staff, and personnel.
• Inspect buses and report any equipment malfunctions; maintain cleanliness of vehicles.
• Fuel daily and inspect bus for any exterior damage; monitor gauges and fluid levels.
• Maintain contact with Transportation Office via radio/phone and report delays or emergencies.
• Maintain accurate records of mileage and passenger counts; complete trip logs.
• Assist disabled individuals on and off vehicles as needed; monitor safety of passengers.
• Report route problems and suggest changes when appropriate.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
