Responsibilities
Summary
The Transportation Officer is responsible for securely transporting detainees between destinations and ensuring that the vehicles used for transportation activities are safe and properly maintained.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducts pre-trip, during-trip, and post-trip inspections of all vehicles operated.
- Provides written Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) at the end of each trip or shift and reports safety defects to the Transportation Supervisor.
- Ensures all permits and licenses are in order before starting a trip; reports issues to the Transportation Manager if any problems arise.
- Ensures vehicles have necessary safety equipment before trips; reports issues to the Transportation Manager if any problems are found.
- Completes all paperwork and reports accurately and thoroughly, submitting them according to policies and procedures.
- Ensures detainees are properly secured before departure and during transport, and that all necessary paperwork is obtained and complete.
- Follows all safety measures and legal requirements during transportation.
- Contacts safety authorities and facility management immediately in case of an accident, providing detailed verbal and written reports.
- Delivers vehicles for servicing and retrieves them when ready.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; valid state requisites for employment.
- At least three (3) years of experience handling prisoners or as a Corrections, Detention, or Military Police Officer.
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years old.
- U.S. citizen with a valid U.S. driver license.
- Verified and certified 80 hours of driver's training from an approved provider.
- State Firearms License and State Security Guard License.
- Completion of an approved training program in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military, with certification.
- No preventable accidents, suspensions, DWI/DUI, or more than two (2) moving violations in the past three (3) years.
- Pass company and DOT drug and alcohol tests.
- Ability to work overtime and travel for extended periods, including overnight stays.
- Ability to handle physical and mental stress, work up to 16 hours within a 24-hour period, and report to work punctually.
- Must be mature, flexible, able to command respect, and possess a high tolerance for mental stress.
- Proficiency with computers and relevant software.
