Responsibilities
Summary
The Transportation Officer is responsible for securely transporting detainees between destinations and ensuring that the vehicles used for transportation are safe and properly maintained.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-trip, during-trip, and post-trip inspections of all vehicles operated.
- Provide written Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) at the end of each trip or shift, reporting any safety defects to the Transportation Supervisor.
- Ensure all permits and licenses are valid before starting a trip; notify the Transportation Manager of any issues.
- Verify that vehicles have necessary safety equipment before trips; report issues to the Transportation Manager.
- Complete all required paperwork accurately and submit reports according to policies and procedures.
- Secure detainees properly before departure and during transport; ensure all documentation is complete and accurate when obtaining and delivering detainees.
- Follow all safety measures and legal regulations during transportation.
- Immediately report accidents to safety authorities and facility management, providing detailed verbal and written reports.
- Deliver vehicles for servicing and retrieve them when ready.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; valid state requisites for employment.
- At least three (3) years of experience handling prisoners or as a Corrections, Detention, or Military Police Officer.
- Minimum age of twenty-one (21) years.
- United States citizenship.
- Valid U.S. driver license.
- Eighty (80) hours of verified and certified driver's training from an approved provider, as per U.S. Department of Transportation standards.
- State Firearms License.
- State Security Guard License.
- Completion of an approved training program in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military, with certification of satisfactory completion.
- No preventable accidents, suspensions, DWI/DUI, or more than two (2) moving violations in the past three (3) years.
- Pass company and DOT drug and alcohol tests.
- Ability to work overtime and travel extended periods, including overnight stays.
- Ability to handle physical and mental stress associated with extended hours.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Physical alertness and ability to work up to sixteen (16) hours within a 24-hour period.
- Ability to command respect and maintain high mental resilience.
- Proficiency with computers and relevant software.
- Possibility to obtain a USDOT medical examiner certificate (
