General Description

SUNY NIagara has a need for part time Biology Technical Assistants to work in the Business & STEM division.

The rate of pay is based on the level of education the candidate possesses. For a Bachelor’s degree or lower the rate of pay will be $22.52 per hour. For a Master’s degree or higher the rate of pay will be $24.76 per hour.

In order to build and maintain an active pool of qualified candidates to meet our present and future needs for this position, SUNY Niagara will accept applications on a continuous basis. Openings may or may not exist at this time. Applications are evaluated on an as-needed basis, and candidates will be contacted when the department has an opening. Typical Work Activities

  • Prepare materials for use in undergraduate biology laboratories including microbiology media, microbiology cultures and chemical reagents;
  • Set up and remove class materials weekly in laboratory classrooms;
  • Maintain laboratory organization including proper sterilization and disposal of wastes;
  • Manage inventory including maintaining records, recommend purchasing;
  • Ensure lab equipment is maintained.

Essential Functions

Required Qualifications

Associate’s degree or higher in Biology or a degree in a biology-related field with at least 6 lab-based science classes at the undergraduate or graduate level. Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.

Desirable Qualifications

Proficiency performing techniques in Microbiology: media preparation, culturing of bacteria, protozoans, and/or fungi, sterilization and disposal of wastes; proficiency using and maintaining an autoclave; experience maintaining microscopes and other laboratory instruments.
